Dr. F. Ames Smith
Dr. F. Ames Smith Jr, is a board certified general and breast cancer surgeon in practice since 1990 who established the Hereditary Cancer Risk Clinic in Boise in March of 2024. The goal of the clinic is to identify and manage both men and women who have a genetic predisposition for cancer. He also leads the High-Risk Breast Clinic which evaluates and manages women who have increased risk for breast cancer based on various risk factors. Having done surgery for more than thirty years, Dr. Smith now brings his surgical experience and knowledge into his fully dedicated office-based practice. He encourages his patients to be self-advocates and highly values the physician-patient relationship. He is able to see patients in the office or via telehealth, and welcomes new patients.
About Dr. Smith
Dr. Smith has dedicated his practice exclusively to managing patients (both men and women) with high risk for cancer, especially those with a hereditary (inherited genetic) predisposition to cancer. His general and breast surgical knowledge and experience has made him uniquely positioned to lead this service line, which has been a focus of his practice for the last 16 years. He works collaboratively with other local and regional providers including breast surgeons Dr. Rhiana Menen and Carrie Newton, among others. He shares an office with Lake City PT who specialize in women’s health (including oncology, pelvic floor issues, and lymphedema). He is available for office visits as well as telehealth (licensed in Texas, Washington, and Idaho).
